Steve Cory was an NASA astronaut in the 1970s. In 1972, he disappeared and did not resurface until 2261 of the Alternate reality.
Biography
In 1970, Cory was recruited for NASA's Apollo program to test a top secret experimental ship. In 1972, he went to the moon with his daughter Ella's drawing in his suit. He then went to NASA's top-secret Base on the far side of the moon. There, he piloted the Apollo X on what was supposed to be a quick round trip, but he then disappeared and was possibly presumed dead by NASA and his family.
However, the Apollo X's Holdover capsule then had him land on Hinrichs V. Sometime after the landing, Cory's DNA was rewritten, changing him to a creature native to the planet. For 291 years, he survived as a creature.
Kelvin timeline
In 2261 of the Alternate reality, Cory was discovered by Captain James T. Kirk and a landing party from the USS Enterprise. At first, Cory was thought to be an animal when he attacked Kirk and Spock's landing parties. Kirk then guessed from his daughter's drawing that he was human, so Cory was beamed aboard where he was able to change back to human. At first, Cory was able to recover. However, Cory was stricken with tumors that were compensating faster than Dr. McCoy could treat him. Thus Kirk was forced to return him to the planet, where he changed back.
Starfleet then sent a medical ship to monitor his condition and hopefully find a cure.(TOS - Lost Apollo comics: "Part 1", "Part 2")
- Cory's appearance appears to be based on that of Larry Hagman's astronaut character, Tony Nelson, from the television series I Dream of Jeannie.
