Stockholm is a city located in the northern parts on the European continent of Earth, and was the capital city of the nation-state of Sweden.

History and specifics[]

In the 1990s, famed mathematician and pacifist Alfred Bleikoff won the Nobel Prize for his theory of the origin of the universe. The awards presentation was held in Stockholm. Bleikoff failed to appear, as he preferred to commune with war protesters outside the building. He was found the next day teaching his ideas of peace to inmates. His idealism contributed to the ending of a war. Shortly thereafter, he fell victim to an incurable disease and was cryogenically preserved in space. (TOS comic: "Prophet of Peace")

The Peace Institute was based in Stockholm in the 21st century. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

Before World War III, Colonel Adrik Thorsen was rumored to have crushed a demonstration in Stockholm by deploying battlefield pulse emitters - which had been meant for use against armored infantry. Because the protestors had no radiation armor, hundreds died, and thousands were left badly injured. (ST novel: Federation)

In the late 23rd century, the Central Bureau of Penology was housed in the city, and was the clearinghouse for research performed at several Federation penal colonies, including the Tantalus colony. (TOS episode: "Dagger of the Mind")

Prior to 2267, a researcher at a laboratory located in the city accidentally ingested a large quantity of cordrazine. The researcher immediately began to suspect that he was under attack and barricaded himself in the laboratory. When colleagues were finally able to break into the lab, they discovered that the researcher had planted a chemically explosive trap which resulted in seven deaths, and a further twenty-three people were injured. (TOS - Crucible novel: The Fire and the Rose)

Federation starships named USS Stockholm are named for this city.
