The MACO/Enterprise patch.

Strike Team Hammerhead was a 22nd century MACO force that served aboard the Enterprise (NX-01) during the Xindi crisis.

History[]

The team was led by Corporal Hideaki Chang, part of the Military Assault Command Operations troop company assigned to Enterprise under the command of Major Joss Hayes.

In 2153, Strike Team Hammerhead was assigned to blow up a Xindi mining and refinery station in the Kaletoo Sector. They left Enterprise aboard Shuttlepod Two with pilot Travis Mayweather. With their environmental suits covered with a paste made of fuel isotope particles to mask their signals, the team took a spacewalk in zero gravity to three large isotope fuel tanks and attached three dozen explosive devices. They inadvertently set off an electromagnetic security system that trapped most of them against the duranium tank surfaces. Chang wanted David McCammon to detach their tether lines and get the shuttle clear before the blast, saving at least his life, but Mayweather quickly tied into the shuttle's communications system through his EVA suit and boosted the remote override signal to halt detonation. Charging their tether lines disabled the booby traps, and they were free to maneuver. Selma Guitierrez and Colin Eby reprogrammed the detonators to work from the shuttle, but interference prevented that plan from working. Eby had been forced to detonate the bombs from close range, and died during the blast. In addition to taking out the depot, the explosion also destroyed an incoming Xindi ship and allowed the rest of the team to return safely to Enterprise. (ENT novel: Last Full Measure)
