Styra was an inhabited planet in the 83 Beta trinary star system in sector 18J. It was dematerialized and taken to another star system in 2267.
Background[]
Early in the 23rd century, erratic solar eruptions were detected from a star in Styra's system which would eventually destroy the planet. To save the population, the Federation Science Council began Project Atlas, which developed technology to fire transmutation beams, similar to transporter beams, which could convert the planet and its population into biomagnetic recordings, then be reconstituted in another system.
History[]
In 2267, Project Atlas was enacted. Styrans gathered in large population centers to be transmuted onto data modules, sometimes with as many as 100,000 people dematerialized at a time. The planet itself was transmuted by a beam from the Styra space station. When completed, a senior technician compiled all the data into a spherical file chest, which was given to the USS Enterprise to take to another star system.
Unfortunately, despite being a top secret project, the criminal merchant Anzar heard about it and stole Styra with the aid of his sister Allura. The Styra sphere was taken to Anzar's hideout on Lurota, but was recovered by a landing party from the Enterprise. (TOS comic: "The Hijacked Planet")
- It was not stated when or in what star system Styra was reconstituted.
