In the mirror universe, the Styx class was a 23rd century Terran Empire starship type, a tier 6-rated Terran dreadnought[1] and dreadnought cruiser class in Imperial Starfleet service in the 2250s and 2410s decades. In the 25th century, this class was also operated by the Khitomer Alliance members in the primary universe. (STO website: Mirror of Discovery: Command the Mirror Styx Dreadnought Cruiser!)

History and technical specifications[]

The Styx class drew inspiration from the ISS Charon, the starship commanded by Emperor Philippa Georgiou. (STO website: Mirror of Discovery: Command the Mirror Styx Dreadnought Cruiser!)

The ISS Charon was a unique, extremely large Terran palace vessel. (Star Trek Adventures RPG module: Discovery (2256-2258) Campaign Guide)

The Terrans launched the Charon from the Imperial Shipyard at Epsilon Indi IV in 2255. (DSC episode: "Terra Firma, Part 1")

Imperial Starfleet operated Styx-class dreadnoughts as flagships during tactical operations. In the year 2256, numerous Styx-class Terran dreadnoughts served as flagships for squadrons attacking the planet Pahvo in the primary universe in the year 2410. These dreadnoughts used tractor beams offensively against shield generators and defense satellites as well as defending Khitomer Alliance starships. The Terran dreadnoughts also deployed their Magee-class frigates to aid in combat. (STO - Mirror of Discovery mission: "Peril Over Pahvo")

In the 25th century, the Khitomer Alliance classed the Styx as a dreadnought cruiser. Typically for starships of its time period, a Styx-class vessel was equipped with beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. The beam arrays of the Styx were targeting-linked phasers. This class was equipped with a impulse engines, warp core and quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was not an innate ability but various mechanisms could be installed to serve as a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - Mirror of Discovery missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "First City", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Specifically, a ship of the class included four forward weapon mounts and four aft. Bridge officer stations allowed for a commander-ranked officer pulling double duty as engineer and command division officer, a tactical lieutenant commander, a science officer lieutenant, a lieutenant commander doubling as both intelligence officer and officer of any other department, and an ensign of any department. The Styx class could equip dual cannons. As a carrier vessel, the Styx contained one hangar bay loaded with Terran Empire Magee-class frigates and as a command ship, it was designed to inspire and fielded the inspiration mechanic. As an Alliance dreadnought cruiser, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from rapid repairs, enhanced hull plating, devastating weaponry, armored hull and the vaulting ambition starship trait. The Styx was equipped with the magnetohydrodynamic fusion expulsion console, which distorted the magnetic field around the ship, causing the violent expulsion of ionized plasma in the form of a corona. (STO website: Both Worlds: 14th Anniversary Bundle!)

In 2411, the Terran Empire operated a refit of the Styx class, the Terran Acheron-class dreadnought carrier. (STO website: Refractions: Command the Acheron Dreadnought!)
