Su'Kal was a Kelpien man who lived in the 31st and 32nd centuries.

Biography[]

His mother, Issa, was a crewmember aboard the Kelpien starship KSF Khi'eth. When the Khi'eth crashed on a dilithium-rich planet in the Verubin Nebula, Issa was pregnant, and gave birth soon after the crash; she named her son "Su'Kal" according to Kelpien tradition, as the name was typically given to the first Kelpien child born after a disaster (translated, the name means "Beloved gift").

Due to the circumstances of Su'Kal's birth, he developed a connection to the dilithium reserves on the planet. Issa cared for her son as long as possible, but ultimately became severely ill with radiation sickness; knowing that her death was imminent, and that rescue was unlikely, Issa created a vast holographic environment to sustain her son's needs. (DSC episode: "Su'Kal")

The shock of witnessing his mother's death caused Su'Kal to instinctively emit a powerful psychic shockwave, which caused all dilithium within range of the planet to go inert, causing the apocalyptic event known as The Burn. (DSC episode: "That Hope Is You, Part 2")

After Su'Kal was rescued, he returned to his home planet of Kaminar. (DSC episode: "Kobayashi Maru")
