A sub-light engine is a type of propulsion technology, an engine which can propel a starship at speeds less than the speed of light.

The most commonly used type of sub-light engine is the impulse engine.

In the year 2370 a sneak attack on the USS Enterprise-D took out many systems, including the sub-light engines. (TNG - The Space Between comic: "Strategy")
