Sublieutenant

Sublieutenant is a rank of officer in many naval services, space forces, and military organizations. The lowest commissioned rank, and falling below lieutenant in services of the Confederacy of Vulcan, the Romulan Star Empire, and the Starfleet Marine Corps, as well as the alternate timeline Interstellar Coalition Space Command. Standing

A sublieutenant is the most basic officer rank in the SFMC hierarchy, a grade higher than a trainee officer or cadet (including the third lieutenant or midshipman), as well as ranking on warrant officers and NCOs. This is a grade below full lieutenant or second lieutenant in most rank structures. The sublieutenant rank is roughly equivalent with the grade of an ensign of naval forces. The Romulan Star Empire has sublieutenant, considered to their position of secondam, however, these grades are equivalent to a Starfleet lieutenant junior grade, and outranks their lowest officer ranks, erein or equitoriam, which are equivalent to Fleet ensign or Marine sublieutenant.
