The suv'batleth is an honorable style of ritual combat engaged by warriors of the Klingon civilization during the Day of Honor. This challenge involved three warriors on each side engaging in single combat, with the winning side allowed to request any favour from the other. Such battles could continue until death, but it was acceptable to end them when one side could not continue.

Under the terms of the Day of Honor, even non-Klingons may engage in the suv'batleth on the Day of Honor. When attempting to defend the planet Cha'Xirrac from the Cardassians and a recent environmental catastrophe, Captain Benjamin Sisko challenged Kor to the suv'batleth to earn his assistance, Sisko challenging Kor and his two chosen warriors with Worf and Odo as his own allies. Prior to the duels starting, all parties agreed that, given Odo's nature as a Changeling would make it hard to wound him, any wound delivered to Odo that would have decapitated or dismembered a solid would be considered a winning blow. While Worf was not able to defeat Kor, he was able to fight Kor long enough for Sisko to inflict a serious wound on his own opponent. Odo disabled his own foe by feigning weakness and luring the Klingon into a position where Odo could dislocate the Klingon's arm, which Kor acknowledged was a valid strategy given Odo's nature. With his fellow fighters defeated, Kor chose to spare Worf, observing that there was no sense in a kill that would not grant him victory, and agreed to assist Sisko's efforts.
