Suzette Ling was a Human Augment, a woman who served loyally under Khan Noonien Singh during Earth's Eugenics Wars and followed him to exile on Ceti Alpha V.

Biography[]

Ling was born at Sarina Kaur's genetic engineering Chrysalis Project in India. When she was young, Ling preferred technology and mathematics to reading, and attended the same classes as Khan. In May 1974 during Dr. Maggie Erickson's class, she asked what allergies were, and didn't understand what being sick meant. (TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)

By the 1990s, Ling served as an intelligence officer and highly-trusted security officer for Khan. In November 1992, she reported that a mission to capture Aegis agents Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln failed in London. In January 1996, Ling alerted Khan that American B-52s were en route to bomb their palace.

In deference to Ling and other loyal subjects, Khan relented from retaliating by destroying Earth's ozone layer and accepted Gary Seven's offer to bring Ling and other loyal subjects to the stars aboard a DY-100 prototype sleeper ship. (TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 2)

Ling survived cryogenic suspension and helped Khan temporarily seize control of the Federation starship USS Enterprise in 2267. (TOS episode: "Space Seed")

En route to their exile on Ceti Alpha V, Ling was secured with the other Augments in the Enterprise's cargo bay. She requested medical aid for Joaquin, claiming he couldn't be waked. When Leonard McCoy inspected him, she dove at his security guards while Joaquin grabbed his throat, demanding to see Khan. They backed down only at Khan's request. (TOS - Star Trek: Explorer short story: "The Way to Exile")

Six months into their exile on Ceti Alpha V, in late 2267, Ling married Joaquin, Khan's chief of security, and they had a son named Joachim by 2269. Ling was particularly distraught over the loss of New Chandigarh when Ceti Alpha V's orbit shifted and catastrophically damaged the world's climate.

In 2279, she and her husband were killed by Harulf Ericsson during the rebel's final confrontation with Khan. Khan honored them by raising their son. (TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: To Reign in Hell: The Exile of Khan Noonien Singh)

Alternate realities[]

In an alternate timeline where Earth was ruled by the Khanate of Earth, in 2376, Julian Bashir recognized the Ling bloodline in Khanate troopers who executed civilians in Moscow. (ST - Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism novella: Seeds of Dissent)
