Switzerland and surrounding nations.

Switzerland was a regional country in Europe, on planet Earth. It bordered France, Germany, and Italy. Its people were known as Swiss.

History and specifics[]

The oldest Swiss language was Rumansch. The 13th century Swiss Articles of Confederation declaring the Swiss independent unto themselves would later influence the writing of the Articles of the Federation. (TOS novel: Doctor's Orders)

Holmium and ytterbium were first discovered on Earth in Switzerland in 1878, and gadolinium in 1880. (ST reference: Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual)

Switzerland was noted for its solid banking industry and its financial information security. The Bank of Switzerland was considered highly secure. (TOS novel: Spock's World) In the 22nd century, the secretive natives of Adigeon Prime were compared to the Swiss. (ENT novels: The Good That Men Do, Kobayashi Maru)

In 1893, Samuel Clemens mistook a time traveling Data as being from Switzerland, rather than France. (TNG episode: "Time's Arrow, Part II")

Montgomery Scott owned a Swiss Army knife, a tool used by the Swiss military forces beginning in the 20th century. (TOS comic: "The Peacekeeper")
