T'Vau was a female Vulcan science officer on board the Sulek-class prospector starship, USS Jefferson Randolph Smith.

T'Vau was quite fond of N'gaan-flavored milkshakes, soya salad, and staring at - not playing or touching - chess sets. Usually, she wore her hair messily arranged, and had vinegar-and-oil spots on her uniform blouse. For a Vulcan, Captain Tatyana Trofimov thought, T’Vau was really a slob.

She was also quite clumsy, and had spilled a N'gaan beverage into the Smith's J2 Duotronic computer, causing it to malfunction and develop a paranoid personality. Years back, she and Mr. Spock once shared a N'gaan beverage... and apparently spilled it on him, a memory he was not quite fond of.

Upon escaping the Smith's possible capture by the Klingons and landing on Direidi, T'Vau, Trofimov, and Tellihu tried to find civilization, but were unlucky enough to encounter Thedd and Orvy, two young mischievous natives. Thedd and Orvy misdirected the Smith's crew, thinking they were invaders, as Thedd and Orvy were avid fans of the Macmaim series of adventures written by their uncle, Ross Flyter, aka Ross Red.

On the surface of Direidi, Doctor Leonard McCoy, Hikaru Sulu, and the IKS Fire Blossom officers Askade and Memeth, came across the Smith's crew; T'Vau, Trofimov, and Tellihu. They had been riding on board a modified Klingon Model 18 Ground Attack Unit with an extended crew compartment, with searchlights replacing the grenade launchers. When T'Vau saw the Klingon survey vehicle, she demanded that McCoy, Sulu, Memeth, and Askade leave at once. (TOS novel: How Much for Just the Planet?)
