The Talaxian asteroid base was a 25th century Delta Alliance space station, an asteroid base constructed atop an asteroid in the Entaba star system by the Talaxians of the older New Talax asteroid colony. It hosted a population of 3,000 people and was represented by Neelix, Starfleet Ambassador to the Delta Quadrant. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Reunion")
Service history and specifications[]
Forerunner and establishment[]
In the year 2377, Neelix left the crew of the Federation starship USS Voyager to join the New Talax asteroid base led by Oxilon. The colony was home to 300 Talaxians who descended from people that had left Talax. (VOY episode: "Homestead")
Permanent contact with Starfleet was established when the Project Full Circle fleet began operating in the Delta Quadrant in 2381. (VOY novel: Unworthy)
That operation was laid out as a three-year mission. (VOY novel: Full Circle)
At some point, the Talaxians moved to the Entaba system and established buildings and satellite-based shield emitters around the largest asteroid. The station was an improvement over the New Talax colony in the Nocona system, and hosted 3.000 people. In the 2400s decade, the Nistrim sect of the Kazon began harassing the Talaxian asteroid base.
Meanwhile, the Talaxians began searching for a suitable class M planet for colonization. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Reunion")
Delta Alliance[]
In 2410, regular contact with Starfleet was reestablished when the Jenolan Dyson Sphere jumped from the Beta Quadrant into the Alsuran sector, near the Kotaba sector were Entaba was located. Voyager, now under the command of Neelix's old friend Tuvok, visited the Talaxian asteroid base. They repelled a Nistrim attack and helped the station with repairs. By then, Neelix's people had found an uninhabited planet to settle on, New Talax in the New Talax system. Tuvok opined that the Khitomer Alliance's experience with supporting the settlement of New Romulus would be invaluable.
With positive relations built between the Talaxian colonists and Delta Quadrant Command, the Talaxian asteroid base became part of the burgeoning Delta Alliance. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Reunion")
The leader of the Vaadwaur, Gaul, was invited to the Talaxian asteroid base for peace negotiations. Gaul only feigned cooperation. To underscore the Vaadwaur Supremacy's thirst for violence and power, he shot the cook Jolex, and his troop raided the station, killing several more hostages before they were driven off by Delta Quadrant Command and Turei supporters. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "All That Glitters")
