The Talaxian fighter[1] was a type of Talaxian starship classes, a series[2] of fighters in autonomous civilian service in the 2370s decade. (VOY episodes: "Basics, Part I", "Homestead")
Specifications[]
By the 2370s decade, the Talaxians employed at least two designs of fighters, Talaxian fighter type 1 and type 2. (Shipyards reference: Delta Quadrant)
The basic appearance consisted of a flat triangular hull that tapered into wings on either side. A cockpit or crew module formed the bow of the vessel. Like the Drexia-class freighter, the engine at the rear of the ship glowed cyan. Both fighter types included negative space between the inner edge of the wings and the central spine. (VOY episodes: "Basics, Part I", "Homestead")
The configuration of the Type 1 vessel matched the Rakosan fighters in use around the same time. (VOY episode: "Dreadnought")
The crew section of the Type 2 fighter resembled the command section of the Bajoran Perikian-class interceptor. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 83: "Bajoran Assault Vessel")
Ships of this type were armed with phasers. (Star Trek Adventures module: Delta Quadrant Sourcebook)
These fired white-blue particle beams. (VOY episode: "Basics, Part I")
The second type of Talaxian fighter was also fitted with torpedo launchers. Deflector shields acted as defenses. (VOY episode: "Homestead")
Service history[]
The Talaxian-Haakonian War lasted for almost a decade from the mid-2340s to 2356. In that year, the Haakonians deployed the metreon cascade weapon of mass destruction on the Talax moon Rinax. The Talaxian Defense Forces surrendered to the Haakonian Order. (VOY episode: "Jetrel")
The Talaxian Navy was forced to disarm, and the Haakonian Order placed restrictions on the size of Talaxian ships. The Drexia-class freighter was allowed to remain in service due to its small size. (Star Trek Adventures module: Delta Quadrant Sourcebook)
By the early 2370s, the mining colony on Prema II kept fighters of one type. The Talaxians of Prema agreed to a defense deal with the Federation starship USS Voyager against the Kazon in 2371. Following several attacks by Kazon at the end of the year, Voyager chief engineer B'Elanna Torres deployed a photonic fleet of Talaxian fighters during a battle with three Kazon-Nistrim Predator-class carriers. The holographic ships fired blue particle beams at the Kazon, drawing some fire away from Voyager. (VOY episode: "Basics, Part I")
During a storm in 2372, Voyager was forced to "grapple" onto the hull of a crippled Talaxian fighter inside an asteroid field. (VOY comic: "The Storm")
In the beginning of 2373, Prema II fighters supported Lieutenant Tom Paris and his shuttle during a fight to retake Voyager from the Kazon. They returned to their colony after Voyager's Starfleet crew regained control of their vessel. (VOY episode: "Basics, Part II")
A convoy of six vessels led by Oxilon left Talax behind to settle as free people on a new world. They covered tens of thousands of lightyears and eventually settled in an asteroid field in relative proximity to the Noconia[3]. In 2377, the New Talax asteroid base came under attack from Nocona, who sought to exploit the mineral wealth of the asteroid field. Oxilon was unable to devise a defense. Fortunately, Voyager visited the colony around this time. Neelix, the ship's ambassador and morale officer, used his Drexia-class freighter Baxial to help set up a grid of shield generators around the asteroid. During the deployment, the colony's remaining Talaxian fighter and Voyager's Delta Flyer II provided cover from Nocona's fire. (VOY episode: "Homestead")
By the early 25th century, the people of New Talax had relocated to a larger Talaxian asteroid base in the Entaba system. In 2410, the Delta Alliance provided an escort when Neelix's people send a colonization fleet of Drexia-class and Mislenite freighters to a hitherto unclaimed class M planet, also named New Talax. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Reunion")
