This was the best color pic that I could find for Faulwell. When he is on a cover, he is usually in back or, in the case of book #59, the wrong color.
Is there a reason that the date given for his joining starfleet is 2357 rather than 2358 which would be the obvious date given the comment in War Stories that he "enlisted seventeen years ago" (story takes place in 2375)? Also, I am moving the entire article to "Bartholomew Faulwell" since that is in fact his full name. Discuss here if you think for some reason this is bad. Of course "Bart Faulwell" will just redirect to the new page. --Jdvelasc 05:06, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well, December 2357 is 17 years (and one month) prior to January 2375, if you want to consider the possibility of real dates rather than imaginary number dates.
- Also, why would Faulwell be enlisted? Most graduates of doctorate programs would be granted officer's rank upon entry into a service organization. -- Captain MKB 05:38, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- As to the date, of course it could be 2357, but I was just wondering if there was a specific reason that it was listed as such (other than war stories where no further info is given). Simply subtracting years seems pretty standard - for example, we don't write 2350/2351 for birthdates, etc. (should we?) And true, with today's rules he could be commissioned. But war stories specifically notes that he enlisted and then reenlisted and his new commander says "noncommissioned academic types" implying that this is standard. And there could be an external reference to this difference when an androssi reading his file notes that he is obviously officer material. Perhaps there is some specific difference in the future because he did not go to starfleet academy which does seem to be the standard for every officer (not at all like military academies today). Are there other characters who went to only non-starfleet academies and are officers in starfleet? I can't think of any off the top of my head (some went to vulcan science academy + SA, etc) --Jdvelasc 07:46, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
