Is Beta Rigel a planet or a star? Various articles on this site say both, which doesn't seem likely.. -- Captain MKB 15:51, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Since the Borg attacked it, it would seem to indicate the name can be given to both the primary or sole inhabitable planet around the Beta Rigel star (as we've seen before) or the star itself. --Captain Savar 17:07, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

- Well, the Borg attacked it. From the Destiny series and the following novels, it's stated that the Borg only attacked inhabited locations in and around the Federation. The best source I can find off the top of my head is in Lost Souls (bold added for emphasis):
- Hernandez let herself see what the Queen wanted her to see: fleets of Starfleet and Klingon starships being crushed without mercy or regret, orbital defense platforms above five worlds being obliterated with ease, and the cubes' preparations for surface bombardments that would turn those worlds into lifeless slag. Vulcan. Andor. Coridan. Beta Rigel. Qo'noS. In moments, they would all be gone.

It's definitely a star system in Star Charts, while the context in the novels is strongly that of a planet. Which planet, I can't say. I hope my development of this article sufficiently clears up any confusion, or at least makes all the confusion clear. :) -- BadCatMan 09:27, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
