A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Discovery and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Star Trek: Infinite and Star Trek Online, as well as other post-57th Anniversary publications such as the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). Changed "was a city" to "is a city". Im assuming Birmingham is still around in the future.Idoliside 15:50, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

This is a "past-to-present-tense" issue that I believe Memory Alpha might have explored in more detail. To wit, we write in past-tense because we are "pretending" we are "farther in the future" and that the majority of Star Trek's events have "already happened" -- however, some things like galaxies and planets won't be "going away" any time soon so we mightn't want to past tense them. I don't recall the specifics of the MA decision, we should look that up. -- Captain MKB 17:18, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
