Do we actually know that he retained the title in Star Trek VI, or is this still supposition from the MA article that this was copied from?--Long Live the United Earth 17:29, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

The posit from Indistinguisable From Magic is that if you are a chief engineer with the rank of captain, then you are a captain of engineering. It's in La Forge's last conversation with Captain Picard - it states such that was what Scotty was at all points after he was promoted to captain. -- Captain MKB 17:41, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

That wasn't neccesarily my interpretation of that conversation, but I'm willing to go with it. However, wouldn't that actually mean that Scott was captain of engineering aboard the Enterprise-A in Star Trek V first?--Long Live the United Earth 17:45, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Good call on that.
As to interpretation, i can't even say this topic bears that much scrutiny (or would have before IFM was released). If you were a captain and you were in charge of anything, the phrasing would be "captain of" - no other requirements for how its used, it's just a phrase and not a title. Captain of engineering versus captain of latrines? Hmph. -- Captain MKB 17:57, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps interpretation wasn't the correct word, I just didn't really think that far into the matter. Anyway, doesn't matter, the article looks good now.--Long Live the United Earth 18:19, August 7, 2011 (UTC)
