Should Charlie Pike be merged with Josh Pike?[]

We currently have two pages for Christopher Pike's father: Charlie Pike and Josh Pike. I'm not sure if they should be merged or not, but having two page seems to go against the way we normally do things. We don't have separate pages for George Joseph Kirk, Benjamin Kirk and Eugene Claudius Kirk, which are different names for Kirk's father. NetSpiker (talk) 03:24, August 3, 2016 (UTC)

This is more than an alternate naming -- Josh Pike and Charlie Pike are distinctly different people. It would be a disservice to both articles to merge them.
You're also incorrect, we do have an article for Benjamin Kirk, as he was presented (like Charlie and Josh) as a separate character than George Kirk from canon.
I realize you're trying to merge and unify a lot of sources, but i think this level of discontinuity is not open to the approach you are using. There's no canon deciding factor between Josh and Charlie. There could be an explanation between the two that allows both to exist in the same universe (like a time shift), but we have no information about any timeshifts, so we really cant make up a source unifying the characters (and articles). The Benjamin Kirk article makes a concession to canon by referencing him as a "father figure", which is the furthest stretch i feel is valid, but still a stretch, and i think that's fine -- although there is also a John Byrne story that might 'bookend' the GK comic events into a different timeshift. Some of these things are settled when new sources become available, some might be fated to remain discontinuities. - Captain MKB 13:18, August 4, 2016 (UTC)

JUST FOR THE RECORD -- ( i didnt want this reasoning to remain on a separate talk page)

Charlie Pike and Josh Pike, despite both purportedly being Pike's father, have both led sharply different lives and hold different places in the Trek universe -- Josh Pike is Starfleet's elite, a retired admiral if i am not mistaken -- while Charlie Pike is an NCO who has had a soap opera of history with remarriages and his son being adopted away from him and then reuniting

It would be a disservice to templatize Charlies history into Josh's article and it would be a disservice to change Josh's history to reflect what was written about Charlie. They're two different people. -- Captain MKB 13:44, August 4, 2016 (UTC)
