Why does this need a separate article? Data Soong is just Data after he was resurrected and chose to adopt his creator's surname. --NetSpiker (talk) 00:52, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

- This Data is from a separate reality, just as Data (mirror) is a separate article from Data and Spock (Kelvin timeline) is a separate article from Spock.
- I guess the best example would be Maxwell Forrest and Maximilian Forrest - counterparts of the same character that have separate names in different universes (thus explianing why this doesnt have a disambiguant). -- captainmike

- I still think that Data Soong and Data (Captain) should be merged with the main Data article. They are both continuations of the Data character who first appeared in Encounter at Farpoint. If Data Soong gets a separate article because the Novelverse is a separate reality, then wouldn't every character in the Novelverse need a separate article? Does every character in every Myriad Universes story need a separate article? Where does it end? I don't want Memory Beta to end up like the Marvel Comics Database or the DC Database where every single alternate version of every character gets a separate article. It makes it very difficult to find stuff. --NetSpiker (talk) 14:23, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
- No, we aren't separating every alternate Data to a new article. But the relaunch timeline is now a "major" tangent, and like the Kelvin timeline, it will be resulting in split off articles for those characters that diverged from the new canon of ST Picard.
- It ends precisely there - "minor" variations like Parallels Data(s) and others will remain embedded in his own "alternates" section - but this newly defined divergence is kind of a big deal, so at this point I don't think you understand what is happening in the Coda books.
- Just as Sarek (Kelvin timeline) and Sarek "began" in the same form and diverged to two different versions, we aren't merging those two articles are we? No. Because the Kelvin timeline is a massive group of storytelling that has resulted in a widely different biography for the separate characterization. Same for the relaunch timeline, which will be getting a proper name at the conclusion of the series. -- captainmike
