A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Discovery and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Star Trek: Infinite and Star Trek Online, as well as other post-57th Anniversary publications such as the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). Also, please do not include details in the summary bar when editing pages and do not anticipate making additions relating to sources not yet in release. THANK YOU

Intense magnetic field emitters designed to repel spatial debris as the ship passes through space. An isolated and weaker version of the ship's primary shield array, they prevent even the smallest amount of space dust from punching holes in the hull at high impulse speeds and from also literally tearing the ship apart while at warp.
Because of their unique design, a ship's primary deflector can also be configured for discharging large amounts of energy during various rescue and battle scenarios. A group of systems designed to protect the ship via a series of high-powered, networked magnetic-fields.
Primary Shield Grid: A network of intense magnetic field generators designed to form a 'shell' around the ship so strong it can prevent physical, chemical, and energy-based projectiles from touching the ship. Most ships are also outfitted with secondary arrays, tapping into battery backup systems in the event that the power core goes off-line (...which has the odd tendency to happen at the worst times...)
Primary Deflector: Another hi-powered magnetic field emitter primarily designed to repel spatial debris as the ship passes through space. An isolated and weaker version of the ship's primary shield array, their main purpose is to efficiently prevent even the smallest amount of space dust from punching holes in the hull at high impulse speeds, and more to the point - from literally tearing the ship apart while at warp - without having the whole primary shield grid continuously active.
Because of their unique design, a ship's primary deflector can also be configured for discharging large amounts of energy during various rescue and battle scenarios.

A new user has added a great deal of text without sources -- in the interests of maintaining good faith, I'll leave the removed text here in case there's anything that could be done with it -- Captain MKB 03:50, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
