A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Discovery and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Star Trek: Infinite and Star Trek Online, as well as other post-57th Anniversary publications such as the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). Though past James T. Kirk's "death", the year for this article is 2294. As per the current rules of this wiki, even with Kirk already dead, this does not constitute an alternate universe. Being dead does not keep one from having adventures, much the same way that multiple novels cannot contradict one video game. Ya'll said it first, not me. – AT2Howell 15:37, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

If i may ask, what is the source of the year 2294 -- the novel Fearful Summons? our own novel timeline? do try and share these things with us rather than keep them secret, so that we may address them... -- Captain MKB
The novel gives the year. We were going to "pretend" that it happened in 2293 as not to conflict with Kirk's "death" but since then, we've decided that opposing sources, no matter how opposing, must both be true and not constitute an alternate timeline. Then, Doug or somebody changed the date on this article, which set me off on this diatribe. – AT2Howell 15:48, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
I think you are blowing this out of proportion -- the novel is obviously supposed to take place before Kirk <strikethrough>died</strikethrough>vanished, but the novelist incorrectly assumed it would be a year later.
This would mean the date is wrong and there is no alternate timeline involved -- we should adjust the novel's references based on the Pocket Books timeline, not try to make some silly point about certain novels being in an alternate universe from the others. -- Captain MKB 15:51, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
