in this episode when data was acting captain he made worf acting first officer but I find it hard to believe that worf would act as first officer when he was just a lieutenant and Geordi was a lieutenant commander so wouldn't it make more sense for geordi to act as first officerStephen2162 (talk) 23:55, January 27, 2014 (UTC)Stephen2162

Geordi was not selected because he was needed in Engineering. I recall it being mentioned in the episode. - Nx1701g (talk) 23:58, January 27, 2014 (UTC)

but he could have beenStephen2162 (talk) 00:04, January 28, 2014 (UTC)Stephen2162 Yes, he could've been selected but, again, was not because he was needed more in Engineering than on the bridge. - Nx1701g (talk) 00:05, January 28, 2014 (UTC)

I think in the episode descent he acted as first officerStephen2162 (talk) 00:08, January 28, 2014 (UTC)Stephen2162

Um no he wasn't. Geordi was captured by the Borg in Descent and was being experimented upon by the Borg. Geordi did serve as XO of the Excalibur in Redemption Part 2. Again though, in the episode Gambit, it was explained that Worf was selected because of the mission that the Enterprise was on. While Geordi did outrank Worf, that does not matter. The person in command of a vessel can select the person who serves as their XO based upon the mission that they've been given. In this case Worf was the more logical choice because the mission was of a security and tactical nature. Had it been of a technical nature Geordi may've been selected in that instance. In this one, however, Worf was more appropriate. - Nx1701g (talk) 00:16, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
