Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). The reason I added a citation notice to this article is becuase I would really like to know in which episode or book this was referred to by the name "officer of the watch" -- Captain MKB 17:56, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

I have a vague memory about this, a quote that says something like "Riker has the first watch on the Beta shift..." [so also evidence for 'bridge watches' and 'shifts' not being the same thing (see my note on shifts.)] At the moment I'm having a hard time finding the reference, but hopefully... soon... – CommodoreFisher 23:37, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Shouldn't the third officer also be considered as a watch officer, obviousily considering that he/she is fourth-in-command of the starship or starbase.71.185.227.7 22:01, March 17, 2013 (UTC)
