the note here is overly long (and probably betrays a lack of understanding about non-congress systems). see France, which has a semipresidential republic in which the president and prime minister can have varying amounts of influence depending upon whether the president has a majority in the parliament. 82.45.195.6 23:27, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. It would be good if someone with a stronger understanding of the parlimentary system were to rework the entry. --Seventy 03:01, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
I want to apologize if the note contains an inaccurate understanding of the republican variant of the parliamentary system -- I'm most familiar with the US system, and more familiar with the UK parliamentary system than with the republican variants found in states like Israel or Ireland or Italy. But what, exactly, is inaccurate about the note? I'd really like to know what I got wrong. -- Sci 19:38 16 DEC 2006 UTC
The note was accurate, but didn't reflect the possibility that Earth was governed under a semi-presidential systemWP like those used by FranceWP, RussiaWP, and South KoreaWP, in which authority is divided between a (usually) elected president and a (generally) appointed prime minister. I've updated the note to include this possibility, at the expense of increasing its length. --Columbia clipper 18:53, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Could we not quite significantly simplify this by not having the conjecture. The presidential and prime ministerial roles could conform to a system already existent on Earth, or could be something used historically, or something yet to even be invented. I propose:

"The Tales of the Dominion War short story "Eleven Hours Out" establishes the President of United Earth as an important political figure, which is confirmed by the ENT novels The Good That Men Do and Beneath the Raptor's Wing. The exact nature and extent of the President’s role, and how it functions alongside the role of Prime Minister of United Earth, are as yet unestablished." --8of5 19:00, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
That might be preferable; the current note is neither exhaustive nor concise. The first "President of United Earth", though, should read "Prime Minister of United Earth". --Columbia clipper 01:03, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
