A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! As always, the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Strange New Worlds and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG and Star Trek Online, as well as other eventful releases such as Section 31, the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

The Starcharts calls it the "Risan Hedony", and other then this Scotty story, it is the only other mention of a Risan government I've heard of. So unless the Scotty story contradicts, this should probably be moved. - Lieutenant Ayala 19:20, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

I checked. The Future Begins refers to it as the Risian Hedony. -- Sci 19:25 4 June 2006 UTC

Also, I'm changing the membership date back to "the late 22nd Century," because that's what Future Begins establishes, though it doesn't list a specific date. -- Sci 19:27 4 June 2006 UTC

The Starcharts lists it as 2249, specifically, and as it's more specific, why would we pick something more general? - Lieutenant Ayala 19:26, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
I would tend to assume that the novels always take precedence over reference materials when there's a contradiction, because the general rule is that the authors of the reference materials don't want to restrict the writers. I'd say this is especially with Star Charts since much of the little facts in it have been contradicted. Keep the facts from it that aren't contradicted, for sure, but I can't see how one small line in a reference book should override a plot point in a story meant to establish how long Risa has been allied with the UFP. -- Sci 19:30 4 June 2006 UTC
But ignoring it is wrong too. The point of this wiki is to list all information from novels, reference works, comics, games, etc. (See first sentence, main page) So the discrepancy should be at least noted in a background section at the bottom, not ignored when it doesn't fit with one of the many "non-canon continuity's" (ie: FASA, Comics, etc.) We try to list everything, and let the reader decide, not just focus on the Pocket Books storyline. When differences arise, note them, don't ignore the ones that are inconvenient. - Lieutenant Ayala 19:37, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
On another note, the Star Charts shouldn't be ignored from this page because clearly (based on population estimates, Capital city reference, and the name of the government) the writers used the Star Charts as a guide to creating the Risian part of the story, as Star Charts was the first mention of the "Hedony". - Lieutenant Ayala 19:51, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Actually, The Future Begins never says when Risa joined the Federation--only that it had been a Federation holiday destination "For more than two hundred years" and that Risa allied with the Federation a few decades after its founding.

And as for Risian vs. Risan-- Risian was used for the planet's appearances in TNG and DS9, but Risan was used in ENT. We opted to consistently use the original spelling for simplicity's sake, but I would suppose that the two are basically interchangable. -- Steve 05:09, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
