I thought we should have this page even though other sources call this ship the USS Al-Batani but it isn't clear to me how to divide up the pages. I think that the sources divide up like this: Mosaic actually tells the story of the Arias expedition and uses the name Icarus. Caretaker simply mentions that Janeway served under Paris on the Al-Batani on the Arias expedition and Deny Thy Father mentions that Paris will get the Al-Batani (does it say for five years? Janeway definitely was not on the Batani for that long). Then there are some quick mentions of Janeway serving on the Batani in various VOY episodes. Am I missing anything? So what should we do with these pages?

By the way, I needed a name for the disambig so I said this was Excelsior class even though Mosaic doesn't actually say what class it is. But it seems very doubtful that this is the Icarus from Armada II (was steamrunner class even around in 2357?) --Jdvelasc 21:01, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Basically you just do both and leave continuity notes pointing out other sources suggested it was a different ship. I'm a little confused about where you got Excelsior class from though, did you just make that up? --8of5 21:34, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Since Paris was an Admiral its possible that he commanded more than one ship during the same expedition -- this would reconcile the comments I suppose, as long as Janeway had remained under his command and gone from one ship to the other in her service to his mission.
The Steamrunner has a low registry number, giving it the indications of being a 2340s or 2350s ship, but some people say that it looks more like a later ship because of its sleek design -- but the "look" of a ship is hardly definitive. Probably a technical manual or RPG sourcebook has dated the ship accordingly. -- Captain MKB 22:02, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
The excelsior class just comes from assuming that it really is the same ship as the Al-Batani. But of course I shouldn't do that. Both USS Icarus (Mosaic) and USS Icarus (Arias) sound weird to me - but what else distinguishes this ship? And while I guess it could be the steamrunner class ship, it doesn't seem that we should assume it is. As for the idea that there are two ships under his command, I don't think Mosaic specifically says they are alone, but it is pretty detailed about the story in parts, and doesn't mention another ship (which would be a bit strange). Also, memory alpha says "Captain Paris" - does it actually say that in Caretaker (or anywhere else)? Or are they just assuming? --Jdvelasc 22:17, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
