Tally is the fourth planet of the Cryblon system, located in a disputed sector between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Tally had been uninhabited for eons, and was considered a dying planet of no strategic value.
History[]
In 2264, Klingons set up a base on Tally with at least two dozen officers. Shortly after Nyota Uhura joined the crew, the USS Enterprise and a Klingon D7-class battlecruiser orbited Tally on opposing sides. James T. Kirk and Spock beamed down with a landing party to investigate. When Uhura discovered their transmissions were being blocked and that the landing party's lives were in danger, Gary Mitchell chose to leave orbit and request instructions from Starfleet.
Without authorization, Uhura took the shuttlecraft Keppler to the surface to rescue Kirk. A neural-disruptor had paralyzed their nervous systems, and would soon kill them, but Uhura was able to jam its transmissions with a spectrometer. She reconnoitered the Klingon base, carried the landing party aboard Keppler, then launched the shuttle into space. The Klingon warship shot through the shuttle's hull, but Montgomery Scott had already beamed the crew aboard the Enterprise.
As a result of the mission, shields on Starfleet starships were modified to block the effects of the neural-disruptor.
In 2285, the surveyor USS Wilson picked up seismic disturbances on the surface of Tally. Starfleet diverted the USS Excelsior to study the planet as it broke apart. The wreck of the Keppler had remained in orbit all this time. (TOS comic: "Uhura's Story")
