Tanaris IX was a planet located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, the ninth planet in orbit of the Tanaris star system.

Tanaris IX was a mining colony located in the Lantaru sector in the 23rd century. It was one of two Federation colonies cut off from Federation space by the destruction to subspace affected by the destabilization of an Omega molecule on a nearby space station. (TOS - Section 31 novel: Cloak)
