Tartek was a Cardassian who was led an elite five-man unit who were sent to Bajor in 2371 on a mission to retrieve a Karg temporal disruptor left behind in a uridium mine during the Cardassian Union's withdrawal at the end of Occupation of Bajor.
When the chroniton radiation from the time-device started to cause the team's sickness and madness, Tartek fled the mine, with his team pursuing him towards the shuttlecraft, (DS9 comic: "No Time Like the Present")
