Task Force 13 was a 23rd century Starfleet military unit of Federation starships.
Service history and specifics[]
Task Force 13 was made up of three Ranger-class scouts under the command of Captain Kristine Reardon based at Defense Outpost 1121, an R1 Invictus-class space station in the Korial system along the edge of the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone. If war is declared, standing orders stated that the Task Force was to cross the neutral zone and deploy within Klingon Empire territory at the Stogar system, then serve as recon support for a Starfleet patrol group.
In 2283, on reference stardate 2/1808.19, while the task force was on patrol, Reardon received a code red 1-A transmission from the base, Starfleet's code for all-out war. Following orders, she diverted the task force to Stogar and waited for the patrol group while hidden in the system's asteroid belt. However, a Klingon battle group of five K't'inga-class battlecruisers under the command of Admiral Kai zantai-Mik defended the system and detected the approach of the task force.
The battle group engaged and destroyed the encroaching USS Vidal and USS Clark. Despite USS Strider using a Gartherian Pivot maneuver, the damaged vessel escaped only by luck, when her destabilized warp engines triggered a wormhole that dropped Strider nearly a parsec away from the battle area.
Heavily damaged, Strider returned to base, where her crew was arrested for treason and Reardon held for court martial. Starfleet had not broadcast the war alert, and only garbled fragments of the transmission remained in Striders damaged main computer. Subsequent investigation vindicated the task force.
