Tau Cygna V was a planet located in the space of the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant, the fifth planet in orbit of the Tau Cygna star system in the de Laure belt.

Specifics[]

Tau Cygna V is a dry class H planet with a thin atmosphere, but could be terraformed. (Decipher RPG module: Worlds)

Terrain on the inhospitable world was mostly desert wastelands, with water supplies located only in mountainous areas at high altitudes. The planet was bathed in hyperonic radiation, harmful to Humans. (TNG episode: "The Ensigns of Command", Fact Files Issue 47: "File 18 Card 30, Tau Cygna V Colony")

History[]

In 2255, the planet was annexed by the Sheliak civilization under the terms of the Treaty of Armens, section 133, paragraph 77. (TNG episode: "The Ensigns of Command", Last Unicorn RPG module: The Price of Freedom)

In the year 2274, the starship SS Artemis crashed on the surface and the survivors started a new colony, accidentally violating the treaty. Over time, the colonists developed a natural resistance to the planet's radiation.

In 2366, the Federation starship USS Enterprise-D was assigned to remove the lost colony of Humans against their will before a Sheliak colony ship settled there. To handle the relocation effort, Lieutenant Commander Data was sent to planet since he was immune to the radiation's effects.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard negotiated for additional time to relocate the colonists, and three weeks later a transport evacuated them to another planet. (TNG episode: "The Ensigns of Command")

In 2371, the crash of the Enterprise-D on Veridian III shifted its crew into the Nexus. Data awoke in a 1970s American home with Ard'rian McKenzie, whom he recalled from his visit to Tau Cygna V. (TNG - Strange New Worlds VI short story: "Tribble in Paradise")
