Tau Delta IX

Tau Delta IX is a planet, the ninth planet of the Tau Delta system, located in the galaxy's Beta Quadrant. A Federation starbase was situated on its surface.

H/istory and specifics[]

Class M Tau Delta IX is in the general vicinity of the Organian Treaty Zone and a K class Deep Space Communications Link Station. Its atmosphere has a purplish appearance.

History[]

In 2268, the Federation created new territory expansion zones which were not far from Tau Delta IX.

Ronald Tracey coerced Harry Mudd, disguised as Captain James T. Kirk, to infiltrate the starbase on Tau Delta IX and collect vital data to sell to Koloth as part of a Klingon incursion into the expansion zones. Mudd landed a class F shuttlecraft at the starbase, but didn't file a flight plan or follow approved routes. He was arrested by Krakowski after tampering with the base's communications equipment, then transferred to a psychiatric facility after claiming that he wasn't Kirk.

The starbase transmitted an Alpha One Priority alert to the starship USS Enterprise, which diverted to Tau Delta IX to take custody of Mudd and stop the Klingon incursion. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Made Out of Mudd")

The starbase's designation was not provided in the story. Based on assignment patches worn by its personnel, however, it was not Starbase 10, Starbase 11 or Starbase 13.
