A temporal anomaly or time warp is an unusual anomaly in the fabric of space-time that can occur naturally or also be created by artificial means, whether on purpose or accidentally.

Effects of time warps differ per anomaly, some time warps can affect local space-time, changing its properties, while others could act like rifts or gates in time, connecting two different time periods and locations with another for time travel. Time warps tend to be unstable in general, often collapsing or dissipating in a span of elapsed time after creation. In some cases, exposure to them could be dangerous to organic lifeforms. (TNG episodes: "Yesterday's Enterprise", "All Good Things")
