Temporal incursion was a term used to refer to alterations of the timeline caused by time travel.

History and specifics[edit | edit source]

The Federation created several agencies to monitor these incursions and enforce the Temporal Prime Directive. These agencies included the 29th century's Temporal Integrity Commission and the 31st century's Federation Temporal Agency. These agencies employed temporal agents to protect the timeline from disruption. (VOY episode: "Relativity"; DTI novel: Watching the Clock)

Temporal Cold War[edit | edit source]

During the Temporal Cold War, numerous incursions happened.

In the 1940s, a Na'kuhl faction under the command of Vosk launched a temporal incursion on Earth with the intent of letting the Nazis win World War II. (ENT episode: "Storm Front")

In the 2150s, members of the Suliban Cabal acted on the orders of the 28th century's Jamran Harnoth to interfere with the timeline. On numerous occasions, the Suliban engaged the Enterprise (NX-01) in various attempt to change the timeline to suit Harnoth. This interference only stopped when Timot Danlen and other temporal agents captured Harnoth. (ENT episode: "Azati Prime"; DTI novel: Watching the Clock)

Also in the 2150s, the Sphere Builders manipulated the Xindi into attacking Earth as a way of destroying the Federation before it could be founded. They also created the Delphic Expanse in an attempt to make the galaxy more habitable for their own kind. Both Sphere Builder plots were stopped by the crew of the Enterprise. (ENT episode: "Azati Prime")

The Borg[edit | edit source]

In 2373, following the destruction of their cube at the Battle of Sector 001 the Borg deployed a sphere that traveled in time to 2063. The Borg intended to kill Dr. Zefram Cochrane and stop first contact between Humans and Vulcans, but were stopped when the USS Enterprise-E destroyed the sphere. The Borg continued to fight the crew of the Enterprise, nearly taking over the ship, but Cochrane was eventually able to repair his ship, the Phoenix, and make the first successful warp flight by a Human. (TNG movie, novelization & comic adaptation: First Contact)

USS Voyager[edit | edit source]

During its time in the Delta Quadrant, the USS Voyager were involved in numerous temporal incursions.

The crew of Voyager was accidentally transported to 1996 by the temporal incursion of Captain Braxton aboard the USS Aeon). Braxton was trying to stop a temporal explosion that involved Voyager, but nearly ended up causing the explosion by his actions. This was stopped when Voyager destroyed the Aeon in 1996. (VOY episode: "Future's End")

In 2375, Braxton (blaming Voyager's crew for his disgrace) attempted to destroy Voyager by using a temporal disruptor. He was stopped when another version of Braxton sent Seven of Nine on a temporal incursion to stop Voyager's destruction. (VOY episode: "Relativity")

Voyager's crew later benefited from a temporal incursion when a future Admiral Kathryn Janeway traveled back in time to give Voyager advanced technology and speed its voyage home. (VOY episode & novelization: Endgame)
