Tendarans were a humanoid species native to Tendar IV, a planet in the Tendar star system.
In the 23rd century, they were best known for their rigid legal system and totalitarian government.
Biology[]
Their life signs were too close to Human to distinguish them with starship sensors.
Technology[]
Tendarans were at Earth's level of technology in the mid-21st century. They had mass transit systems, nuclear fusion power, a complex road network, global satellites, and had developed spaceships with intersystem capability. They recently invented the transtator, a significant leap forward, which gave them subspace technology, which they employed for subspace communications and sensors.
Government and legal system[]
In 2265, Prime minister Jon was the highest official of their government and spoke for their planet. The government was totalitarian in nature.
The Tendaran legal system of crime and punishment prioritized punishment over issues of guilt or innocence. It had a set of rigid laws with no trials, appeals, or rights for those incarcerated. All crimes had a penalty of life imprisonment and criminals were forbidden to have outside visitors. Personal rights were secondary.
In their capital city, for instance, seven percent of the populace were imprisoned, with an overbearing threat of punishment said to have significantly reduced incidents of crime. That meant two million out of 29 million people were in prison. The capital city was designed around its correctional facility. This main complex was rectangular, tall, and designed to appear impregnable, with an open floor plan that made unobserved activity unlikely.
Officials of the Department of Planetary Corrections reported directly to the prime minister.
Uniforms and ranks[]
Government employees all wore uniforms. The prime minister wore a purple suit with a high open collar and four pips on the left. Prison officials wore collared navy blue uniforms with bare shoulders and gloves, with a long, gold triangle on the collar's left side, and a gray belt with a sidearm.
Ranks were marked on their left forehead with rank insignia: four vertical bars ( |||| ) for the prime minister, two long and one short bar ( |.| ) for the leader of the capital city correctional facilities, and two vertical bars ( || ) for a security team leader. Some prison guards had one long bar and one short bar ( |. ) in the middle of their forehead. (TOS comic: "Prisoners")
