Terman was a Human man, a commodore serving in Starfleet in the 24th century.
Although Terman carried the flag rank of commodore, he rarely used the rank himself and always preferred to be addressed as “Doctor.” He had been known to say, “The rank was given me, but I had to work for the damned doctoring degree.” Whenever there was need for rescue services, Terman and his crew seemed to appear with incredible timing. Some said he had supernatural abilities, but he called it “dumb luck.” (TNG novel: Vendetta)
