Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow: The following content contains spoilers!

Terok Nor was a space station of Cardassian design that was built in orbit of the world of Bajor by Bajoran slave labor in the year 2346. The station was used for the processing of uridium ore by Bajoran laborers. It was later renamed Deep Space 9, but its original name was used during its brief time under the Dominion during 2373-2374. The station also retained this name in several alternate universes, including the "mirror universe" of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance.

The Star Trek Roleplaying Game Player's Guide states that construction of the station began in 2343.

History and specifications[]

History[]

Cardassian occupation[]

Construction on the station was initiated under Cardassian leader Kotan Darek, who utilized the famous, imprisoned Bajoran architect Charna Sar to fully realize the design of the station. (DS9 comic: "Terok Nor")

Work on the station was finally completed in 2346. (DS9 episode: "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night", Last Unicorn RPG module: All Our Yesterdays: The Time Travel Sourcebook)

The Visual Dictionary and the novelization of Far Beyond the Stars state that the station was completed in 2351.

In the early 2360s decade, the Ferengi, Quark opened Quark's Bar, Grill, Gaming House and Holosuite Arcade on the station's Promenade.

In 2366, the station was infected by a variation of the deadly Double Helix virus. Station prefect, Gul Skrain Dukat, allowed a small Federation medical team access to the station to work on a cure. (TNG - Double Helix novel: Vectors)

In 2368, former agent of the Obsidian Order Elim Garak was exiled to the station and given the menial job of a humble tailor. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time)

In 2369, the Cardassians withdrew from the Bajor sector and the new Bajoran Provisional Government invited Starfleet to administer the station. They renamed the station Deep Space 9. (DS9 episode & novelization: Emissary)

Alternate timelines[]

In an alternate timeline in which the Cardassian Union did not withdraw from Bajor in 2369, Terok Nor remained a Cardassian base. Gul Dukat was still in command of the station in 2373. (TNG - Myriad Universes novella: A Gutted World)

Kelvin timeline[]

In an alternate future of the Kelvin timeline, Terok Nor was still in use by both the Cardassians and their Dominion allies. In either the 2360s or 2370s, Q brought the USS Enterprise under James T. Kirk to the station. There, Kirk, his ship and crew were then captured by the Jem'Hadar. They were then brought to the station where Kirk met with Gul Dukat. (TOS - The Q Gambit comics: "Part 1", "Part 2")
