In the mirror universe the successor state to the Terran Empire created in 2293 by Emperor Spock, inspired by a mind meld with a human from an alternate universe, who assumed the role of Consul. Unlike the former Empire the Republic was a representative democracy and quite contrary to it's predecessor renounced pre-emptive war as foreign policy. The freedoms and morals of the newly formed republic were however viewed as signs of weakness by it's galactic neighbours, within two years the Klingons and Cardassians formed and Alliance which conquered the Republic and enslaved it's population.
