Terrastron

A terrastron.

A terrastron was a three-headed dog-like mammalian animal native to the planet Karr.

History and specifics[]

Terrastrons were specially bred for tracking by Karrians in Karrstern. One particular animal was a "pet" of the Karrian tracker group. Each of its heads had a specialty: one with excellent eyesight, one with a particularly keen sense of smell, and one with a killer snout. It was leashed in chains by Karrian handlers wearing thick protective gear.

In 2267, after James T. Kirk, Spock and the Shell Supreme fled the Arena of Karr, Romulan Commander Nereus ordered them to be hunted and killed by a terrastron. Shell Supreme recognized the beast's noises in the distance, and at his urging Kirk and Spock sometimes rode atop his hover platform to avoid leaving a scent trail. Despite their best efforts, even setting a building on fire, the terrastron still tracked them down in a marshy grassland. As it closed in, however, a curious dinosaur attacked and killed it. (TOS comic: "Shell Game")
