"The Corbomite Maneuver" was the second episode of Star Trek: The Original Series produced in the show's first broadcast season, and the third overall produced after the two pilot episodes. Despite that, this was the 10th episode to air, on 10 November 1966. The episode was written by Jerry SohlMA, directed by Joseph SargentMA and novelized in Star Trek 12 by James Blish and J.A. Lawrence.
Although this was the first regular episode after the pilots, there are still some aesthetic differences from the main part of season 1, such as certain costuming details. This was the first appearance of regular cast characters Nyota Uhura and Leonard McCoy.

- A computer monitor viewscreen shows a projected constellation map, providing a canon reference to many real constellations.
Novelization[]
- Although this was the first regular production of the series after the two pilots, the story was not presented as a novelization until the last numbered compilation of James Blish TOS adaptations, the penultimate story in Star Trek 12.
- A later reprint edition of Star Trek 12 with new cover art shows a scene from "The Corbomite Maneuver", with Balok's puppet onscreen but with Pavel Chekov prominently sitting at the helm. In the canon episode, Hikaru Sulu sat at the helm and Dave Bailey had the seat at navigation, where Chekov usually sat. At this point, Chekov had not been introduced in the series.
- Another reprint of the overseas edition from Corgi Books, art by Chris Achilleos, also depicts a scene with Balok's puppet onscreen. Although Sulu is placed properly at the helmsman position, it does seem to show Chekov instead of Bailey.
