The Dead Past was a short story by Human author Isaac Asimov. The story described using a device to see through time and the abuse of such a device to see the immediate past.

DTI special agent George Faunt feared a stolen time perceptor could be used and abused in the same way as the device in the story. (DTI novel: Watching the Clock)
