Summary[]

Space is destroying itself, wiping out whole planets and civilisations. In a last desperate move, Captain Kirk travels to the Guardian of Forever to try and reach the epicentre of the catastrophe... and ends up on the Starship Voyager.

Using Kirk's information, the Voyager crew determine that when they opened up a rift into fluidic space some months earlier to battle Species 8472 they damaged the fabric of reality. The first rift is forming near their current position and their only hope of preventing the end of time is to seal it. However, Q arrives with the news that the Continuum have determined the universe is doomed and ordered him to wipe out humanity as punishment. Kirk convinces him that with human ingenuity and the power of the Q they might stand a chance and Q co-opts several Borg cubes to help.

Kirk takes the Delta Flyer into the rift to use a combination of Federation and Borg technology to plant a seed that the Q can use to seal the rift. However, a Borg sphere is despatched to alter the mix and destroy fluidic space. With the Q distracted, Voyager destroys the sphere in a suicide run.

Time is set back on the proper course and Kirk is returned to the Enterprise with no memory of what has transpired, or of the newly-assigned "Crewman Kew"...
