"The Fire" is a colloquial Cardassian term for the 2375 genocide committed at the end of the Dominion War by the Dominion against the Cardassian populace, as well as the months of horror which followed it when the much reduced populace suffered from starvation, lawlessness and other negative circumstances, before the establishment of a new, if shaky, democratic government under Alon Ghemor.
