"The First Year" is a Deep Space Nine comic published in the Waypoint series. Featured in the 2019 Waypoint Special from IDW Publishing, the story is set on the first anniversary of Jadzia Dax's death.
Summary[]
Ezri Dax visits Ambassador Worf on Qo'nos to commemorate Jadzia's death. Worf hasn't forgotten the date, and lets her accompany him on a journey to the coastal settlement of Korvann. He explains that his task will be to discipline a Klingon liaison who got into trouble on Andor, claimed diplomatic immunity, and was recalled. He confesses that his duties have become less advisory and more managerial lately. Ezri asks if he regrets taking the post, but he avoids answering.
The two unpack bat'leths at the settlement conference's arena. Ezri provokes him into sparring, and Worf envisions Jadzia battling him. He admits to missing Jadzia every day, and to having left Deep Space 9 to distance himself from Ezri. They agree that this posting isn't where he should be.
The liaison arrives, and Worf smacks him to the ground. Worf says the man has no honor, and they "discuss" how he will apologize for his infractions. Later, Ezri and Worf watch the sunset. He jokes that a good punishment would be for the liaison to take his place as ambassador. Worf resolves to contact Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Chancellor Martok. Then they share some blood wine.
