The Hottest Blood of All was a roleplay module for FASA's Star Trek: The Role-Playing Game. It was the eighth of eleven licensed adventures published in FASA magazines, this one in Stardate Magazine vol.3 #1. In this adventure, a sequel to TOS movie, novelization & comic adaptation: The Voyage Home, a Federation science team studies George, Gracie and baby humpback whale Jessie in the Pacific Ocean.
Description[]
- This is an adventure for five to seven Star Fleet characters of relatively low rank. They are serving as consultants and liaison between Star Fleet and the personnel of Federation Ocean Monitoring Platform Onizuka; officially they are part of Project Nursery – the study and the security of the only three whales left on Terra. In the course of the adventure, security is breached, and a potentially murderous crime is committed. The characters must remedy the injury and bring the perpetrators to justice — if they can be found. Along the way they may also discover some things no one else on Earth or in the Federation knows about the whales and the mysterious probe sent to contact them.
Summary[]
Shortly before Gracie gives birth to Jessie, the Federation initiates Project Nursery to monitor and study the whale family from a safe distance, aided by an Arcadian attaché. But after three months, little has been learned about the species that saved Earth from the Cetacean Probe. The whales have migrated to Hawaii and are feeding several miles offshore. The Molokai government demands that the whales be removed from the region, as they are harming local fish populations. During a confrontation with their officials, zoologist Margaret deSilva discovers that the whales are stationery and not breathing, and will drown if not rescued in the next 15 minutes.
Sea skimmers use cargo anti-gravity units and ropes to lift George and Gracie to the surface, but Jessie is missing. When her parents awaken, they are agitated, break free of their cradles, and begin diving in circular search patterns looking for their child. Arcadian Maha Naree slips away underwater, listening for any signs of Jessie. After 30 minutes, the whales start heading east. Maha reports a faint sound in that direction that may be Jessie, and asks if Onizuka should follow.
- Subsequent events depend on gameplay, including whether Starfleet is able to uncover the details of Operation Motherlove. The module includes detailed biographies of Onizuka staff as well as maps of Hawaii and southern California.
