The New England Journal of Medicine (1812 – ) was periodical literature, an English language medical journal founded in New England, a region in North America on Earth.
History and specifics[]
An article in a 2277 edition of the journal described the results of a ten-year research study by Doctor Davis. The study described how a medicine that temporarily prevented the digestion of sugars would lead to weight loss. Leonard McCoy had read the article, then told Admiral James T. Kirk about it after giving him an injection. It inadvertently inoculated him against a phytoplankton bacteria from Marris V which afflicted the rest of the USS Enterprise's human crew. (TOS - Star Trek II Short Stories short story: "Wild Card")
