The Rich and the Dead was an original holonovel produced in the 2360s decade that was based on the Dixon Hill pulp adventure series.
History and specifics[]
- It was a hot, steamy night in the city by the bay... so hot even the rats were moaning for relief...
The plot revolved around suspicious deaths of winemaker Daniel Truscott and his wife Cybeline Truscott aboard their yacht. His business partner and surviving relatives all had motives to kill him, with police taking action to try to keep Hill from investigating the case.
In 2369, Robert Picard gave his brother a copy of the holodeck program as a birthday gift. Part of what intrigued Robert about the narrative, perhaps to challenge Jean-Luc Picard, was that a significant clue could be found to the identity of the murderer if one's wine-tasting skills were sharp. Jean-Luc and Beverly Crusher roleplayed characters in the story on the holodeck while the USS Enterprise-D orbited Beta Maradi VII. (TNG comics: "The Rich and the Dead!", "Reductions & Deductions", "Hidden Agendas!")
