For other uses, see Ferengi.

The Ferengi Rules of Acquisition: Revised for the Modern Ferengi were the result of Grand Nagus Zek's 2371 attempt to replace the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition. Zek had been influenced by the Orb of Wisdom in an attempt to see the future. Instead, the Prophets altered Zek to make him eschew greed and embrace benevolence, causing great potential upheaval within Ferengi society, had the revised rules been released before Zek's mind was restored.

Rom and Quark noted that the first words of the eight of the first eight rules were "If... never... keep... profit... a... good... smile... honesty." No hidden messages were found to be encoded in the text via scent, taste, or invisible ink. (DS9 episode: "Prophet Motive")
