Sisko and his crew come to the aid of entrenched Starfleet soldiers on a planet in the Chin'toka system.
Summary[]
Bashir visits Vic's lounge, where Vic gives him a recording of his songs. The Defiant is heading to the front lines of the war, where Bashir hopes to play Vic's songs for the troops. Vic questions if the troops would want to listen to four hundred year old songs, but Bashir comments that the songs may be old but sound new when Vic sings them.
In the wardroom, Sisko comments to Odo that looking at the casualty lists of the war has become a grim tradition and that while he used to read the names to honor the sacrifices of those who have died, the names have started to blur together.
The Defiant soon departs, but with an extra person. Quark has been asked by Grand Nagus Zek to visit the front lines to report on his experiences. Entering the Chin'toka system, the Defiant is attacked by a Jem'Hadar ship, but the crew are able to destroy it. The Defiant reaches their destination, AR-558, and, Sisko, Dax, Bashir, Nog and Quark transport down, but come under fire.
Sisko realises that the fire is from a Starfleet team and calls out. Chief Larkin tells her team to hold their fire and admonishes Vargas for for firing without being ordered too. Vargas simply comments that he thought it was the Jem'Hadar.
